Video Poker is based on the poker games that you are used to playing, such as Jacks or Better. The object of the game of video poker, no matter which variation you are playing, is to make the highest ranking hand possible with the cards you are dealt. The first thing that happens is that you are dealt five cards and you are given the chance to discard any of the cards you were dealt that you don’t want or need, and get new cards that you can use to make the best possible hand. The ranking of hands varies slightly with each variation of the game, but normally, the Natural Royal Flush is the highest ranking hand that you can have and will usually win you the game’s jackpot (whether progressive or set).

In addition to the ranking of hands varying from game to game, the payouts for each type of hand will also vary. For example, a Flush in Jacks or Better may pay you 30 coins on the max bet while the same hand in Deuces Wild pays 15 coins on the max bet. The main difference in this instance, is the lack of Wild Cards in Jacks or Better. This is why it is important to always read the payout table and rules for each variation.
